Renewable energy, also known as green energy, is clean, efficient, sustainable, and responsible for less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional sources of energy. Renewable means that once created, it cannot be depleted. That is one of the major advantages of using renewable energy: unlike conventional energy sources (fossil fuels), renewable energy is not harmful to the environment. Renewable means that you can use it over again, forever. That is a big advantage because we are probably in the point of depletion of the earth’s natural resources – meaning that unless something is done, many of those valuable resources will be depleted before we get another chance at them.
Renewable energy can be defined as any source of energy derived from living things, such as plants, animals, or the sun. The most common form of renewable energy used today is wind power and solar energy. Some of the more exotic renewable energy sources include tidal energy, geothermal energy, hydropower, geothermal power, and microhydropower.

When referring to renewable energy sources, it is important to distinguish between the different kinds. For example, there is biomass which is made up of organic material such as fallen trees, waste material from mines, agricultural, backyard, orchards and so on. Biomass can be used to produce electricity or fuels; but it can also be used to create water for drinking and cooking and sewage treatment. As far as the technologies for harvesting these renewable resources go, there are a few good ways to use biomass.
There are two primary ways to use biomass to produce energy. First, the energy can be converted directly to other fuels. Second, the renewable resources may be burned. This can take the form of burning wood waste (biomass) or utilizing combustible materials such as biogas or methane gas from livestock and coal production.
Renewable means that the energy can be replaced. When biomass is used to generate electricity, the energy will have to be replaced by something else-and it cannot be replenished. However, since geothermal heat can be trapped in underground veins and springs, geothermal heat can provide an unlimited source of energy. Because geothermal heat is not consumed like other forms of renewable energy, it has a distinct advantage over other alternative energies.
Although geothermal heat can potentially supply the world with an unlimited amount of energy, its accessibility is somewhat limited. It can only be accessed in certain places such as sub-tropical and tropical regions. Also, this energy cannot be tapped directly because the temperature requires an underground temperature of 14 degrees Celsius or higher. This is why fossil fuels remain as the primary source of electricity. However, it can still be utilized in other types of renewable energy technologies. The most popular are solar power and wind turbines.
